This restaurant is located in a 250-year-old fortress. From the fort you have a beautiful view of Willemstad and the bay. A steep road leads to the fortress.

Fort Nassau

Entrance

Once the car is parked, walk up stone steps into the fort. Immediately you imagine yourself back in time. A beautiful entrance made entirely of rocks leads to the courtyard. Once there, you walk to the front of the building and there you will find the restaurant.

Fort Nassau

There are 2 types of tables to reserve: at the edge with a view of the city or harbor or in the restaurant with 180-degree views. We opted for a high table at the edge of the fort to enjoy the view. We really wanted to sit outside.

Interior Fort Nassau

The welcome is very cordial. The hostess stands at the entrance and guides you directly to your table. Time is taken with guests.

Menu

There is a 4-course menu, however, we see tasty dishes and decide to eat from the card. As an appetizer, Cees has scallops with macadamia nuts, banana chips, orange and lettuce. The scallops are fried golden brown in butter. The scallops are tasty, the salad served with the fish is very nice. The nuts give a crunchy bite, the banana chips are nice and crispy and the orange provides a sour/sweet taste. What a great salad this is.

Scallops at Fort Nassau

For wine, Cees takes a viognier by Corette. Because it is wine by the glass, the bottle is not shown. This is a shame.

Thomas takes a salad of quinoa with spinach, croquettes of goat cheese with truffle and blackberries. The presentation is very nice and the flavors are special. The fruit in the salad gives it a fresh taste. The croquettes are crunchy and the goat cheese is still a bit firm. Nicely done! Thomas enjoys the appetizer.

Goat Cheese

For the main course, Thomas takes red snapper with coconut, orange and dill. With it risotto cooked in saffron with fennel. A very large piece of fish is served. This one is crispy, nicely fried on the skin. The remaining ingredients complete the picture. The risotto is cooked al dente. A very good dish!

Fort Nassau dinner

Cees takes tournedos, wrapped with bacon, salad of sweet potato, bell pepper and red onion. With it, a puree of celeriac with white chocolate. The tournedos is cooked medium rare. The bacon is crisp and gives the bacon flavor to the tournedos. Delicious The sweet potato and bell pepper were diced. The onion was stirred into this. This is another beautiful dish.

Fort Nassau dinner

The chef gives me new ideas. Nice to start experimenting with number of ingredients.

View

The view from the fort is grandiose. You have very nice views of Willemstad and the harbor. The high tables allow you to see all sorts of things throughout the evening, even though it is dark. We saw a cruise ship sailing away, the cars on the Juliana Bridge, the colors of the Queen Emma Bridge and we had a view of Willemstad.

View from Fort Nassau

The restaurant is also open for lunch, then of course the view is even better, or head here in late afternoon for an early dinner and have a nice glass of wine or delicious cocktail overlooking the sunset. There is no better spot to enjoy the view of Willemstad. Highly recommended for dining.
