After our stay in Four Seasons Sayan (Bali) we want to enjoy a FS hotel again. Thailand has several FS hotels. We choose Four Seasons Chiang Mai. This hotel is located in the rice fields where farmers are busy planting and harvesting rice. It is a very good location to relax or for a honeymoon.
Arrival
With a taxi from Chiang Mai you will be at the reception of the Four Seasons within 40 minutes. We are warmly welcomed with jasmine flowers by the Front Office Manager and the Assistant General Manager. We can immediately see the view of the rice fields. WOW, what a view. We know we’re in the right place again. Four Seasons is in the most beautiful locations in the world and this is one of them!
We are staying in a Pool Villa. The buggy takes us and we don’t know what we see. We walk through two wooden doors which give access to the villa.
Villa (#01)
Inside is a large desk with a view of the sleeping area. The sleeping area is a bit lower. The bed is very comfortable. The seating area is again slightly lower. There is a big comfortable couch. The large sliding doors give access to the large garden with a pond, whirlpool and swimming pool with a view of nature. Privacy is guaranteed.
From the garden you can walk past the villa and come back. Behind the villa is the outdoor shower that gives access to the shower in the bathroom. The bathroom is large, has two sinks and a separate toilet. On the other side is the dressing table and the walk-in closet.
This room is extremely beautiful. What a pleasure to be able to stay here.
Pool
The swimming pool is magnificent. It is surrounded by the rice fields. There are several sunbeds and daybeds where you can lie down and relax. There is also a whirlpool at the pool. The view from the pool is breathtaking. We can lie in the water all day and look at the rice fields. The resort is incredibly well laid out. The pool service is very good. Immediately the towels are laid out, the water glasses are put down and the water is continuously refilled. Fresh fruit arrives mid-morning.
Restaurants
We had lunch in North the general restaurant. Thai food and Western food are served here. The meals are all good, that is what you expect in a Four Seasons hotel. We had dinner at Khao’s in the evening. This is the Thai restaurant where breakfast is also served. The Thai food is very good, the restaurant is quite responsive to Western tourists, so the food is not spicy. We ask for extra spicy. The Tom Kha Kai soup is recommended, it is so rich, it is a kind of meal soup. Service is as you would expect from the Four Seasons: perfect!
SPA
Get a massage when you are here. The SPA is very nice, the staff is very skilled. Every knot is found and with the hands and elbow all places are loosened. We each have a 90-minute massage that has flown by.
We also take a morning yoga class. This is very fun to do. The morning session is given on the yoga platform above the lake. At the end of the session, the sun rises. It is very nice to see how the sun slowly finds its way up and lets the day start again.
Rice fields
The resort is surrounded by rice fields where the local farmers work during the day. You won’t notice this. The evening ceremony is very beautiful!
Breakfast
As you can expect at an FS, the breakfast is perfect. The second day the staff knows exactly what you want. We were immediately asked if we wanted our black coffee and if we wanted to let them know if we wanted our espresso, which we had ordered the day before. I love this! Staff also knows your name and which room/villa you are in.
The breakfast is extensive. Lots of fruit, lots of fruit juices and enough choice for a complete Western or Asian breakfast. Eggs can be ordered at the egg station and will be brought to the table. There is also a station where pancakes are baked. The restaurant manager provided us with a healthy breakfast consisting of avocado, chia seeds, fresh goji berries, coconut juice and other ingredients. This is delicious.
Room (#1601) – upper rice paviljoen
The upper rice pavilion has a view of the rice fields and the setting sun. You reach the room via a staircase. Inside is a good sized bedroom with chairs and a very large bathroom. From the bedroom you have a view of the rice fields. You have the best view from the pavilion. Doors from the bedroom give access to a private walkway and at the end is a large terrace with a sofa and chairs giving unobstructed views of the rice fields. What a breathtaking view this is. This is a room you must book for the view.
Fitness
The gym is big enough. A cardio room and a weight room. I am very happy that there are also kettlebells. There is enough equipment to tackle your whole body, I’m not missing anything. Especially for a holiday workout there is more than enough. There is a sauna in the dressing room. The steam sauna is outside and is in a separate cubicle.
Departure
Unfortunately, all good things come to an end, including our stay here. What a very good hotel. One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. We will come back when we are in Chiang Mai again.
