Descanso

We have been to Palm Springs before and usually we stay in a gay resort there. The atmosphere is usually quite casual. We saw that the recently opened Descanso, which is highly rated by Tripadvisor, still has a room available. So let’s give this hotel a try.

Before we arrive we receive a text message from Kent (reception) that our room is ready. This is what I call service, getting a text message at 12 o’clock that you can check in. We’re in the area, we’re shopping at Dessert Hills Premium Outlet, so we decide to go right away. Check-in is very efficient. Kent explains the amenities to us and shows us our room for the next 2 days.

We have a balcony suite. Balcony rooms and suites are located on the first floor. The room is spacious. There is a sofa, a desk, a large bed and a cupboard in the room. The bathroom is standard in size. The shower is good in terms of power.

The bed is large (long and wide) and is very comfortable. The room is very neatly decorated. There is a basket of snacks on the desk. This is much appreciated by us. From the room there is a view of the pool and the mountains of Palm Springs.

The temperature of the pool is wonderful. Being a gay resort, it’s clothing optional or bathingsuit optional as the hotel calls it. To enter the hotel, a gate must be opened with a key, so that privacy is guaranteed. Around the pool are the most comfortable sunbeds we have seen in a 4-star hotel. The chairs have thick cushions and are of Italian design.

There are mattresses in the pool, so that the back can also be tanned while swimming. You can float here. Next to the pool is a hot tub, which is very warm and very relaxing.

The resort does not have a gym. You can go to two gyms. I chose to go to Worldgym, a gym about 1.5 km away. This is a large gym, with a day pass you get access to the gym and all facilities.

Breakfast is served outside. There is more than enough choice. At a counter you place the order and then you get a tray with the order. Cleaning up afterwards is not a punishment.

A wonderful resort and one of the best resorts in America for a reason. The pantry (where breakfast can be obtained) remains open all day so you can grab coffee, water, fruit etc as you wish.

The staff is very nice and helpful. Nice conversations with the staff members. It is a very laid-back resort. A very pleasant hotel. We’ll be back when we’re in Palm Springs.
