Certain hotels embrace you before you even step inside.
The location, the arrival, the atmosphere, the stories — or simply the overall feeling — instantly tell you: this is where I want to stay.
Luxury travel is about being cared for in every possible way. About feeling that every detail has been considered. The Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River is designed to deliver exactly that kind of experience.

The hotel was ranked the 2nd Best Hotel in the World in 2025 by The World’s 50 Best Hotels and was also awarded 2 Michelin Keys, placing it firmly among the absolute elite of global luxury hospitality.

Our expectations are therefore high. In this report, you can read how we experienced this iconic hotel during our stay in Bangkok. Can it live up to our expectations???
This hotel opened in late 2020, just like the Capella in the same complex. Two iconic hotels side by side that are equal in quality.

Arrival — Seamless Hospitality With a Small Imperfection

The arrival experience largely follows the classic five-star deluxe ritual. The taxi door is opened immediately, luggage disappears effortlessly into the hands of the staff, and we are guided towards reception where check-in takes place while seated comfortably on a sofa.
A chilled towel and sweet welcome drink await us at the reception lounge. The check-in process itself takes slightly longer than expected, however, with our passports being requested twice — suggesting that internal communication was not entirely flawless. It is by no means disturbing, but it does stand out in an environment where perfection is otherwise the standard.

Signature Room #629
We are upgraded to a Signature Room, a category noticeably more spacious than the standard rooms. The room offers partial views of the Chao Phraya River, the inner courtyard and parts of the building itself.
First comes an entrance hallway that quietly sets the tone. Then the room unfolds itself: spacious, intelligently designed and infused with natural light. The freestanding bed sits almost like an island in the middle of the room, facing the river.
In one corner, a sofa invites you to spend hours reading — or simply staring out over Bangkok in silence.

The room feels serene and residential. Books are casually placed throughout the space, artwork hangs thoughtfully on the walls, and carefully selected objects decorate the shelves. It feels less like a hotel room and more like temporarily living in the apartment of someone with exceptionally refined taste.
Upon arrival, a bowl of fresh fruit awaits, along with a welcome gift from the patisserie consisting of two delicious pastries. This is a warm and personal welcome.

The bathroom is spacious and elegantly furnished, featuring a freestanding bathtub, double sinks, and an exceptionally spacious shower with a perfect water pressure, making you never want to leave. Additionally, the room features a walk-in closet with a safe. From the walk-in closet, you walk back to the hallway, allowing you to effectively make a circuit through the room – a clever layout.
Restaurants & Bars — Completely Different Worlds
Chao Phraya Terrace is a fantastic place for dinner. Thai classics inspired by street food are elevated into refined luxury dining. Grilled meats, curries and traditional Thai dishes are served in a setting that feels elegant yet relaxed.

At Riva del Fiume, classic Italian cuisine is paired with sweeping river views. The pasta with butter sauce and truffle belongs without question among the best pasta dishes we have ever eaten — minimalist in ingredients, extraordinary in flavour.
Despite being the hotel’s signature restaurant, the atmosphere never feels stiff or overly formal.

Bangkok Social Club feels like an entirely different universe. Imagine a glamorous Caribbean-inspired jazz club blended with Bangkok nightlife sophistication.
The bar has repeatedly been ranked among the best cocktail bars in the world, and after visiting, it is easy to understand why. The drinks are exceptional, the atmosphere seductive and the experience unforgettable.

Spa & Gym
The gym is enormous by hotel standards and fitted with premium Technogym equipment throughout. Even standalone luxury fitness clubs would envy this space.

The pool area delivers a rare resort-like atmosphere in the middle of Bangkok. Two connected swimming pools overlook the Chao Phraya River, creating a calm and almost meditative environment despite the surrounding skyline.

The pool water is cold; when we were back in the Netherlands, we were told that the water is now at 28 degrees. This is much better; we found it difficult to dive into the water.

The sunbeds are comfortable and, despite the surrounding high-rise buildings, there is a surprising amount of sun. The service is magnificent: upon arrival, you are escorted to your sunbed where two Four Seasons towels are already waiting. Water is poured immediately and continuously refilled. The staff is constantly present without being intrusive – exactly as service at this level should be.

Breakfast
Breakfast at Riva del Fiume is genuinely impressive. The buffet is extensive, offering tropical fruits, excellent bread, waffles, French toast, salads and perfectly crisp bacon. There is more than enough choice for every guest.

The service is good, although it sometimes takes a little longer for coffee or tea to be served, and there may be a short wait upon arrival before you are escorted to your table. However, once you are seated and have your coffee, you can fully relax and enjoy yourself. The view of the river, the temperature, and the hospitality make the wait worthwhile.

Overall — Almost perfection
The hotel’s second place ranking in the 2025 World’s 50 Best Hotels list is no coincidence.
Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River pursues perfection in nearly every area — and comes remarkably close to achieving it.
The riverside location is stunning. The hotel boat takes you to the metro in fifteen minutes. The rooms are decorated in a timeless style. The restaurants deliver up to their standards.

There are small imperfections. Check-in could have been smoother. And after a complaint, the staff formally apologised to both of us while asking me to “also pass the apologies to my wife” — despite everyone being aware that we are a male couple.
But none of that changes the overall conclusion.
This is a hotel that not only impresses you — it embraces you.
And we will absolutely return.
