The Wickaninnish Inn has been voted one of the best resorts in Canada by Condé Nast Traveler several times for good reason. This unique hotel, located on the coast near charming Tofino, combines a spectacular location on a cliff with direct access to the surrounding rainforest. As a proud member of Relais & Châteaux, the Wickaninnish Inn guarantees an unforgettable stay.

Arrival: an unusual start

The arrival is somewhat unusual. At the entrance of the resort we are greeted by a hostess in a cottage, provided with a list of arriving guests. Due to our early arrival (3:30 PM, while the official check-in is 4PM), a phone call is made to see if we are welcome. Although this start feels a little less hospitable, that soon changes.

After permission to drive on, we are welcomed with open arms. Our name is recognized upon arrival – a personal touch that sets the tone for the rest of our stay. Although our room is not ready yet, we immediately feel at home thanks to the warm welcome.

Our Room (#304): Luxurious with a view

We are staying in the West Wing, on the third floor. The room exceeds all our expectations. With a spacious layout, comfortable sitting area, a gas fireplace, and a balcony that looks directly out to the ocean, this is a haven of peace and comfort.

The bathroom is spacious and stylish, with double sinks, a bath-shower combination, and great attention to detail. Little extras make all the difference: a carafe of port in the room, raincoats for walks in wet weather, and binoculars to admire nature up close. The highlight? The sound of the waves that lulls us to sleep every night. We leave the balcony doors open every evening and sometimes even the fireplace on.

Restaurant & Bar: mixed feelings

The hotel does not have a traditional bar, in the restaurant area you can enjoy a drink. The service is excellent, and the lunch options are impressive – the chicken sandwich is without a doubt the best I have ever tasted.

For a more formal dining experience, Pointe offers a three- or five-course menu. Unfortunately, our expectations were not fully met. Although the setting is beautiful, we found the food not to be up to par with what you would expect from a Relais & Châteaux venue, especially considering the price and service. For a more upscale dining experience, we recommend Wolf in the Fog in Tofino.

Gym: Compact, maar complete

The fitness room is compact and is located in the second building (Beach hotel) of the hotel. The room has a good selection of equipment, it is never crowded. A small downside is that there is no separate changing room, which is inconvenient when you have to come from another wing, especially in rainy or cold weather. Nevertheless, the gym is a nice addition.

Breakfast: A View to Wake Up For

The à la carte breakfast at Pointe combines stunning views with delicious dishes. The spectacular ocean view makes every morning a unique experience. For those who prefer something light, the bar at Beach Hotel offers lighter options such as fresh croissants and muffins.

Overall: Heaven on Earth

The Wickaninnish Inn knows how to pamper its guests. The service is exceptional, the location unmatched, and the rooms an oasis of luxury. Whether you come to relax, watch storms in the fall, or take long walks on Chesterman Beach – every season offers something special.
